ICT, Robotics and Reliable Systems

At UNSW our researchers are tackling the most pressing challenges of the digital revolution. These include e-research and the management of large data sets, cloud computing, data mining, virtual reality, training systems, bioinformatics, smart services and security. The School of Computer Science and Engineering conducts research in intelligent robotics, machine learning, knowledge representation and reasoning, computer vision and image processing. It consistently wins international competitions in robotics and general game playing and has strong links with industrial partners in Australia and internationally. The School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering develops navigation and guidance systems for autonomous vehicles – both in the air and on the ground. The School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications is active in a wide and diverse range of research, broadly grouped into five disciplines:

  • Energy Systems
  • Microsystems
  • Systems and Control
  • Signal Processing
  • Telecommunications (wireless, data networks, photonics)

Cross disciplinary research has resulted in the success of the ground-breaking iCinema Centre encompassing research on digital media presentation of ideas as art.
